The "thingy" in my profile picture is me (offence taken) Europium. It is used to produce the red color in televisions and are used in compact flourescent bulbs. I am not a commonly known element but I am seen often.

Europium resembles what element when mixed with water?

When mixed with water Europium resembles calcium. Yet it is mostly reactive with rare earth metals, and it oxidizes in air very quickly.
