Status update:

1818: It's about time! Finally in France Bernard Courtois discovered me! For all my medical uses, you'd think they'd want me sooner.

1830: Hasta Lavista Goiter! Scientists discovered that I'm great for preventing goiter.

March 2006: My deficiency is still a public health problem.

11/4/13: When Bromine and I reacted in the equation: I2 + Br2 → 2 IBr   Despite all the changes we went through, we didn't lose mass like the Law of Conservation of Mass states.

Overview:

My Atomic Number is 53, my atomic symbol is "I" and I'm in the halogen group. I am a shiny silver solid at room temperature. When I'm heated to a gas I am a rich purple color. I was discovered by Bernard Courtois in France. I dissolve readily in chloroform and dissolve slightly in water.

Information:

Relationship Status:

11/4/13 In a relationship

Primary Relationship:

Bonded with Bromine

network:

I'm in the non-metal network

valence electrons:

I have seven valence electrons

reactivity: I am less reactive, less than other halogens. Commonly combines with Alkali metals, including Potassium creating Potassium Iodine.
state of matter:  I'm solid at room temperature
Location on Periodic Table: Group 17 Period 5

Birthday:

 I was discovered in 1811

Hometown:

I was discovered by Bernard Courtois in France

Movies:

Dora's journey to the planet Iodine: A very Purple Situation

Activities & Interests:

One of my uses is Radiation Exposure, because I help reduce the harmful accumulation of radioactive substances in the thyroid. Another one of my uses is my purpose as a sterilizing agent when it's used to clean wounds and to purify water. Nascent atomic iodine supplemants boost overall thyroid health and prevent Goiter. Goiter is  the throat area and thyroid gland.

I react with air, water, halogens, acids, and bases. That doesn't leave any room for things I don't react with.

Places:

10/18/13 Checking at the Northside Hospital for a blood drive, lots of people need their arms cleaned.

12/31/13 Vegies, wow, people sure like there leafy greens salty!

7/4/13 I love the beach! All this salt water in the ocean is a great place for me!

11/4/13 Checking in after reacting with bromine: I2 + Br2 → 2 IBr

What oragan in the human body uses iodine and what does it regualte?

iodine said

The thyroid gland is the organ that depends the most on iodine. However, practically all organs need iodine including the stomach.

Whate ailments are associated with iodine deficiency?

iodine said

at 9:47 am on Oct 29, 2013

Iodine deficiency can cause inflammation on the thyroid gland resulting in swelling in the neck and larynx regions. Stomach lining cells require iodine and the lack on iodine in these tissues increase the risk of stomach cancer.

Hey! Did you know that together we form actinium triiodide? We should meet up sometime and hangout!

cesium said

Hey... would you like to join my secret service? If we bond, we'll make CsI, or Cesium Iodide! How does that sound?

You want to bond together? We'll have a blast!!

stontium said

Hey! I know other people are asking, but trust me, we'd be the best if we'd bond!!

Hey what is up Iodine! We need to hang out sometime and make Cobalt iodide. It's used to indicate humidity and moisture. It'll be an interesting hangout. (:

You wanna bond together we make Neodymium III

europium said

Hey iodine together we form Europium Iodine, we should get together. How many people can say that they are with a lanthanide.

iodine said

In a covalent bond with Bromine to make Iodine Bromide. Together we form an interhalogen, so now we can rule the interhalogen galaxy!
